Dr. Lambros Mitropoulos is an Assistant Professor at the School of Rural, Surveying and Geoinformatics Engineering of the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA), in the field of Roadway Design. He holds a Diploma in Civil Engineering (2006), an MSc in Transportation Engineering from Imperial College London and University College London (UK) (2007), and a PhD in Transportation Engineering from the University of Hawai‘i (USA) (2011). He has seventeen years of research and professional experience in transportation infrastructure design, and in the development of impact assessment methodologies, within national and international projects. He has participated in 28 research projects, the results of which have been published in scientific publications. His publication record includes 34 articles in international scientific journals and 56 papers in the proceedings of international peer-reviewed conferences. He conducts research on the design & redesign of transportation infrastructure, focusing on accessibility, resilience, and sustainable transportation systems in urban and rural context. He has also participated in 50 design projects related to road engineering, road safety, hydraulic design of roads and intersections, and urban regeneration projects, as well as services related to electromobility, accessibility, and sustainable transport, covering the full spectrum of civil engineering practice. He has been a Research Associate (2019-2025) at the Hellenic Institute of Transport (HIT) of the Centre for Research and Technology Hellas (CERTH), in the Laboratory of Railway Transport Organization and Operation, where he specialized in multimodal transport, new railway technologies, high-speed rail, and hyperloop systems. He also served as an adjunct lecturer at the Department of Civil Engineering of the University of West Attica (2018-2024), and as a researcher at the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa until 2012, where he worked on alternative vehicle technologies and transportation research projects funded by the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and the Hawai‘i Department of Transportation (HDOT). He was awarded the First Prize of PIARC 2011 (World Road Association) for the best publication related to Sustainable Development in Transport. He served as President of the Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE) student chapter at the University of Hawai‘i and is a member of the Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE), the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), and the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE).
